In the 2023/2024 school year the Kinemathek took part in the programme "Le Cinéma, Cent Ans de Jeunesse" for the first time. Together with filmmaker Tschekideh Schahabian and supervisor Annika Herynek, students of the Helmholtz Gymnasium Karlsruhe explored the cinematic question "Filming the other – the documentary gesture". Their short film offers an insight into the work of dancer Gabriela Lang.
An overview of the results (including those of other cities and schools) is available here:

Le Cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse (Cinema, one hundred years young) was founded in France in 1995 for the centenary of cinema. Its goal was to develop an educational approach to film that combines practical filmmaking experience with film analysis. The project grew out of a collaboration between archive institutions such as La Cinémathèque Française, L'Institut Lumière and La Cinémathèque de Toulouse, together with the cinema L'Eden-le Volcan in Le Havre. Its founders included Alain Bergala and Nathalie Bourgeois. The first workshops took place in France in 1994/95 and resulted in the film ‹Jeunes lumières›, which was shown at festivals. The film combines 60 minutes of material from 300 Super 8 films made by children and young people.
